Ivory is a hard, white, opaque substance that makes up the bulk of the teeth and tusks of animals such as the elephant, hippopotamus and walrus. The sale and importation of Ivory is banned or restricted in most countries, but it still turns up quite often in jewelry and carvings. Considering the karmic and environmental damage that results from the world's illegal ivory trade I don't recommend wearing or buying it. Try to avoid old or second-hand Ivory pieces as well. Although these are often still legal they can inflate the demand for faked 'antique' items made from newly poached Ivory.

Magically Ivory is believed to protect its wearer from injury but there are many other stones that can be used for this purpose and in our day and age I think it is far better that an elephant, hippo or walrus wears it for protection from us!
