There are many different forms of Jasper, each with its own unique energy, but there are certain properties shared among all Jasper stones. Almost all Jaspers are in tune with the energy of elemental Earth and Air and can be used magically to enhance your spiritual connection to the Earth, or in spells and charms for protection, stability, self-reliance, prosperity, inspiration and good fortune.

Jasper is associated with the power to break a drought. Anglo-Saxon magicians or 'Leech-Worts' ('leech' refers to healing and 'wort' is the Saxon word for a useful herb) placed carved Jasper bowls at the corners of a farmer's field to bring rain for the crops and modern witches might leave a piece of Jasper on the windowsill or in their garden to bring rain. Although past cultures considered breaking a drought literally as bringing rain, modern crystal healers and magicians use Jasper to break metaphorical droughts as well, for example to inspire a person struggling with writer's block or to help a couple suffering a 'drought' of fertility to conceive a child.

Jasper is a protective stone and is said to prevent nightmares and strengthen the mind against depression and negative thoughts. The stone can be used to increase self confidence and independence and ward off mental or psychic domination by others, helping you to break free from an oppressive situation or an abusive relationship. As usual though, many magicians advise that you use Jasper for this purpose with caution because it can have powerful and sometimes unexpected effects.

Jasper is a useful healing stone because of its ability to strengthen your connection to the Earth element and increase the amount of energy you can access. It is said to balance a healer's energy, making them more effective, protecting them from emotional overload and helping them to bring intuition to bear on their diagnosis. When used in crystal healing Jasper seems to be particularly effective for constipation, ulcers, intestinal problems, bladder and gall bladder complaints. Yellow colored Jaspers are used for treating the endocrine system, tissues, skin, pancreas and sympathetic nervous system.
