Sodalite

The white specks of Calcite scattered across the surface of this deep blue stone make it look very like the foam flecked sea and since the dawn of time Sodalite has been used for Water magic. Thrown into the sea as a gift it is said to gain the good-will of Sea deities and bring you under their protection (this ritual was often used to ensure a safe, speedy journey when travelling by sea). A piece of Sodalite left as an offering in a river under a waxing Moon will gain the favor of Venus/Aphrodite - after giving your gift you can make a wish, and it is said that the Goddess of Love will help make it come to pass.

Sodalite is known metaphysically as a stone of courage and protection. Working with it can lessen fear, increase understanding of impulsive or compulsive behavior and help you safely explore the dark shadows of your psyche. Sodalite is also believed to help insomnia, protect your sleeping mind from nightmares and ensure a healing, restful sleep for anyone suffering the negative effects of stress or illness. Sodalite is a calming stone that is said to be excellent for anyone who is emotionally oversensitive, nervous or highly strung. It helps you to listen symnpathetically to other people's troubles without being overwhelmed by their emotional energy or tempted to offer advice, judgement or condemnation. Sodalite can also help you hear the real message being expressed from a person's heart, despite their words.

Sodalite's most famous magical use is for protection when travelling over the often dangerous element of Water, but it can also be used to protect you and increase your courage and determination when undertaking spiritual or magical journeys. Regular meditation with Sodalite is believed to help awaken the 3rd Eye and develop your second sight and psychic powers. The stone is also said to stimulates creativity, visualization skills and imagination and is useful for anyone who tries to communicate information through expression and feelings, especially artists, performers and teachers trying to create an emotional connection with their students.
